The Aeronca Chief is a 1/22 scale, SAM qualified, flying model that uses the Box and Former method of simplified construction.
The Aeronautical Corporation of America (Aeronca) built the first commercially successful light airplane. So basic was its design, that the pilot sat on a bare plywood board, it was known as "the flying bathtub." The 1939 Chief was a far more comfortable evolution with increased range. Also used by the American Air Force for observation.
