KIT # 44 THE CURTISS SB2C-4 HELLDIVER.
The SB2C Helldiver was designed as a
replacement for the Douglas SBD Dauntless. The original prototype flew in December 1940. Many teething problems delayed production until June 1942 when the first SB2C-1 was finished. SB2C-1C’s followed entering combat in November 1943 from the
Carrier
Bunker Hill. Other versions were A-25’s for the Army, SB2C-
3’s, SB2C-4’s, and finally the SB2C-5. Although our model is
specifically the SB2C-4, any of the SB2C versions can be made from the
kit with minor modifications using references sited on the drawings.
Our model is in 1/24 scale having a wingspan of 24.88”. The kit
includes all the usual good stuff Diels’ kits are known for,
including, printed plans with complete instructions, printwood,
stripwood, 2 sheets of color decals, Japanese tissue, plastic prop and
hardware,
rubber, and molded plastic canopy.
