A successor to the famous Amazon designed in 1948, the Amazoom
is the 14th in a series of design by Stan Hill begun in 1942, and represents the
culmination of development in high thrust line models finally published in 1955.
Theory was that with the center of thrust, CG and center of drag nearly on the
same line, the tight and, therefore, power wasting spiral climb of pylon ships
would open up to a loose one-turn in five seconds and rate of climb would
double. The original model was designed for FAI Competition in the 1950’s. The
BMJR Amazoom, has a 36 1/2" wingspan with an area of 158 in. sq. intended
for 1/4A Nostalgia competition. Construction features a diagonal rib
configuration with sheeted leading edge creating a very ridged warp resistant
wing and stab. Fuselage is strong yet simple to construct. The Amazoom has
proven to be a predictable model to trim and is definitely astatically pleasing.
